The Hybrid Coaster is a wooden roller coaster with steel tracks capable of twisting and performing inversions.

Overview

The Single Rail Roller Coaster's track was implemented in OpenRCT2 v0.3.3 which could be accessed by enabling "allow arbitrary ride type changes" in the ride cheats menu at the time, but can also be enabled in Object Selection (require the cheat menu to be enabled in the options menu). The Single Rail Roller Coaster Trains were implemented during v0.4.2's development.[1]

Single Rail Roller Coaster features many special track elements including inversions and new special track elements were implemented in v0.4.2 including Large Half Corkscrews, Medium Half Loops, Zero G Rolls, and Large Zero G Rolls.

Large Half Corkscrew (left or right) start from a straight track to an inverted track, or from an inverted track to a straight track. They turn and invert 3 units forward and 2 units left or right (occupying 6 units including the center of the turn) and are 7.5 m (25 ft) tall.

Medium Half Loop (left) and Medium Half Loop (right) are new special track elements implemented in OpenRCT2 v0.4.2. Larger than a regular Half Loop (renamed to Small Half Loop on this ride) but smaller than a Large Half Loop. They start from an up-sloped track to an inverted track, or from an inverted track to a down-sloped track. Not counting the steep tracks to use them, they are 3 straight track units long and 15 m (55 ft) tall and 1 unit left or right, covering 2 units invertedly, occupying 5 units.

Half Zero G Rolls (left or right) can be performed from an up-sloped track, which inverts the track. Another half Zero G Roll ends on a downslope. The larger variations are performed from an up-steep track and another large half Zero G Roll ends on a down-steep track. The medium-sized variations are 3 straight track units long and 1.5 m (5 ft) tall while the large-sized variations are 4 straight track units long and 10.5 m (35 ft) tall.

Other features the Single Rail Roller Coaster includes are short long steep to straight tracks like Vertical Drop Roller Coaster and Wooden Wild Mouse, sloped turn to bank, steep chained lift hills, and 90° vertical drops with vertical twists, but no helixes.

In Real Life

The first two single-rail roller coasters to be developed were Wonder Woman Golden Lasso Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas on May 12, 2018, and RailBlazer at California's Great America on June 14, 2018. Both rides were built by Rocky Mountain Construction and had similar track designed but mirrored. Rocky Mountain Construction, who were famous for their hybrid roller coasters, had made other single-rail roller coasters as well.

Intamin has also constructed a Hot Racer-styled single-rail roller coaster at Luna Park Sydney, which opened in 2021.

Skyline Attractions developed Harley Quinn Crazy Coaster for Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in 2018, which was later removed, as well as Tidal Twister for San Diego in 2019. Two unnamed P-Sghetti Bowl-styled single-rail roller coasters are currently under construction at Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Six Flags Over Georgia to be opened in 2023.
