Merging Articles, Condensing Template Names, and Wiki Navigation bar

First, I believe Land and Land, Water, and Items should be merged into one article.

Second, many templates have long names (e.g., Template:RollerCoaster Tycoon Rides & Attractions 2D). They could be condensed (e.g., RCT2 Rides) to make typing easier.

Finally, MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation could be improved. "Parkitekt" under "Other Games" is a non-existent article, and there is no link to the forums.

Regarding first: agreed, I'll work on that. Regarding second: not sure many editors bother. You could, if you want make a new one with the short name, redirecting to the old one, if that's possible. But stay consistent in when naming. Third, Larry98 is working on a new front page, see Test. Parkitect should stay on the page even though there is no article yet, because of its similarity to the RCT franchise's games. Which forums do you mean? You could suggest that to Larry98.

As to number one, Land, Water, and Items was supposed to be deleted, have Land moved to that name, and then have the article undeleted so that the histories could be merged (as explained in the link I provided). But, I assume you had a reason to not have done that, and I do not need to know unless you want to explain. As to number three, I was referring to what appears towards the top of all pages, below "RollerCoaster Tycoon" and next to the wiki logo, where there are dropdowns for "Games," "Lists," and the default "Explore." Also, I had thought you guys had a forums, seeing as how there are some pages under the "Forum:" namespace (e.g., Forum:Forum Rules, Forum:What are we all about?), but I assume they were discontinued. Somewhat-relatedly, do you plan to get Discussions? SLScool (message wall) 23:19, November 27, 2017 (UTC)

Background Images and WikiTroll Offender List

It could be fun to add custom backgrounds to articles. It would not only add artistic variety to the wiki, but choosing which image to put in the background could lead to some friendly competition to get the best picture.

I am new here, so I may be blind to a reason for it, but I believe the WikiTroll offender list should be deleted. It is important to never feed trolls—FANDOM has a help article on that—and the list does just that.SLScool (message wall) 18:19, November 24, 2017 (UTC)

Regarding the troll page: We inherited the list from the sysops before Larry98's adoption of the wiki. The page was created in the very first days of the wiki, so it may be obsolete. I personally find it quite useful for admins to have an editable overview over past blocked users. However, I read the article you linked. So far, I don't know about users that felt encouraged to troll after being featured on the list. Also, there are very few trolls at all on this wiki over time. Besides that, a notable, curious thing is that there is a special page on every wiki that is similar to our WikiTroll page: http://rct.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Log/block

So, I think we can leave the troll page there for now. Deleting it will probably bring no benefit as there is the other automated site. What we could do is removing the link from the wiki's front page so it is less obvious such a list exist. Besides from that, the most effective measure against trolls should be a strict ban policy. The existance of a troll list seems rather not relevant to me. What do all you think? Bodoc Calado
And your opinion on custom page backgrounds? They are achievable by adding a piece of code to MediaWiki:Wikia.css. An example for Vanilla Hills would be:
body.page-Vanilla_Hills{
    background: #000000 url(https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/rct/images/8/8f/Vanilla_Hills_Overview.png/revision/latest?cb=20100119020028) 0 0 no-repeat;
    background-position: center top;
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-attachment: fixed;
    background-size:cover;
    }

An example of the per-page background stuff in action can be found at Subnautica wiki.
SLScool (message wall) 23:42, November 24, 2017 (UTC)

I see Larry98 has started that. I would like to note, however, that it needs to be "body.page-Vanilla_Hills"—the system says the "body" part is unnecessary, but it is necessary for these backgrounds for whatever reason.SLScool (message wall) 01:38, November 26, 2017 (UTC)
Yes I tried to do it, but it not works. Can you please help me. I even completly copied the complete MediawikiCss but it also didn't work. So I changed it back to the one we had earlier. There has to be another page which controls it. --Larry98 (talk) 11:13, November 26, 2017 (UTC)
Special:ThemeDesigner is the only one I can currently think of. Under "customize," make sure the background graphic is set to be tiled. In the meantime, I will try to figure out what else could be causing the fault.SLScool (message wall) 16:28, November 26, 2017 (UTC)
Well, now it works. I suppose this post is all resolved now unless you have thoughts on the WikiTroll offender list.SLScool (message wall) 19:25, November 26, 2017 (UTC)

Hello!

I apologise for my VERY long absence from the Wiki, but I wanna try and be a regular contributor again. Rather than just jump in, I thought I'd ask if there's any projects we're working on atm or any particular articles we're concentrating on that you need help with? If not, I'll just start looking around for where I'm needed. Cheers.--Matt_20_1(talk) 14:43, February 24, 2018 (UTC)

No need to apologise. Well, there is no active project at the moment, I suppose. But Larry98 and/or I, we plan to re-activate the http://rct.wikia.com/wiki/RollerCoaster_Tycoon:Projects page and organise the most neccessary work sometime in the future. Larry98 also is about changing and standardising the rideboxes and redesigning the front page. Things I find to be done soon are completing the RCT3 rides list with the missing articles (but with filled out table and using the article structure of RCT2 articles) and incorporating RCT World content into the wiki. But, as Larry98 and I haven't assessed areas needing progress yet, you are absolutely welcome to find further topics which need work/improvement by yourself. Scenario Pages

What are our thoughts/conventions on the current state of our scenario pages? I've noticed some are a little incomplete in a few places and so I want to go ahead and fix them up but before I jump in want to clarify some things (in no particular order of importance).

I've noticed some make mention of recreations done in RCT3 by (as far as I can tell) fans (i.e. they are not official released versions) and was wondering if it was okay for me to delete this information from the pages? I've also seen we have entries for user made expansions for RCT2 (eg. the UCES), to the extent that we have scenario pages for these fan made ones. Not to discredit all the hard work that went into making them, but I personally don't think the belong here and that we should focus solely on what is official (after all, where do you draw the line, as there are a billion and one different fan made scenarios/assets for the game out there). Again, that's just personal preference but I'm curious to hear what the consensus is.

I've also noticed some entries have pictures of the scenarios completed, which itself I'm not against but I feel doesn't really belong. I'm thinking of moving them to the scenario guide sub-pages if no one has any objections? On the topic of scenario guides, while some are really helpful, others are severely lacking and I was wondering if we had a protocol or anything for updating them? I know by their very nature there is more than one way to complete a scenario, but is it alright if I re-write some of the poorly done ones?

One more thing, I attempted to streamline the The Complete Scenery List and as part of that process I used collapsible boxes. Of course this is a solely antithetical thing, but I was wondering what you guys thought? Would you mind if I did this on scenario pages in a similar way, or prefer if I left it alone?

Sorry guys, I know there's a lot of questions in there, but I don't wanna go and mess around with things before getting some input. Cheers- Matt_20_1(talk) 13:12, March 2, 2018 (UTC)

Limiting what pages the Random Page button can use?

I think that the Random Page button shouldn’t bring up more personal pages on the wiki, like talk pages and user profiles, since they aren’t actual articles. Is there any way where we can make pages like this exempt from what pages it can use?Ho-tee (talk) 00:32, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
