A bobsled roller coaster , or bobsleigh in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, is a type of steel roller coaster that has cars travel along a channel that aren't connected directly to the track but flow with it instead.
Construction
Track is a semi-circular channel, supported by tubular steel posts. Cars run on small wheels, and are free to take their own course along the track, guided only by the curvature and gradient of the channel.
Special Track Elements
- Banked Curves
- Banked Helix
- On-Ride Photo Section (OpenRCT2)
Constraints
- Banked Curves - 50° banking
- Maximum Track Slope - 25°
- Maximum Lift Hill Slope - 25°
- Maximum Height - 78 Feet

Other Information
- Track layout requires very careful planning, as cars can crash off the track at the crests of hills if going too fast.
- Badly, in RCT2 Wacky World Expansion, Penguin Bobsleigh's designs are likely poor and prone to crash, although they were completely tested with blank trains. In real usage, adding even only 2 people can let the train fly off the track.
- RCT 2 Black Death Ride is a heavy version of Bobsleigh that allow to build for very long run. Although this version has only 5 cars per train, running as traditional roller coaster does as well unlike other versions since those weight is light and adding guests can let them fly off easily. However, some designs for light version may not be passed when using as Black Death Ride either it will fly off or will be stuck on a crest due to not enough speed.
- The big bobsleigh car that RCT2 (incorrectly) calls "Flying Turns" is a very big bobsleigh car that is heavy enough to run with short to medium crests but not good for very long run. This requires to build more careful as the train can easily fly off the track with less highest speed possible at the top of crests than original bobsleigh trains (26-28 mph while another is 30) and also the hill drops (30 mph while another is 40)
In Real Life
- There are two companies that have made the multi-car version of the bobsled coaster. Mack Rides and Gerstlauer have both made over 20 bobsleds around the world and although no new bobsled has been built recently they are still among the most popular rides at their respective parks. The bobsleigh coaster design used in RCT was made by Mack Rides. Two of these bobsleighs can be found in Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Heide-Park.
Intamin also used to produce bobsleigh roller coasters. As of 2020, the only remaining example is La Vibora in Six Flags Over Texas, after "Bob" in Efteling closed in 2019. Intamin's designs used six-seater cars that resemble actual bobsleighs much more closely. RCT2 added these cars (but still used the Mack track), but incorrectly refers to them as "Flying Turns", which refer to a wooden bobsleigh track with multi-car trains. A modern replica of this kind of bobsleigh opened in Knoebels in 2013.
