This setting, also known as '''Guests are more difficult to attract''' in Scenario Options and '''harder guest generation''', will prevent you from attracting significantly more than 1,000 guests without building large coasters. In order to attract more than 1,000 guests with this setting enabled, you must build rides with an excitement rating of at least 6 and a length of at least 600 meters (1,968 feet). In exchange for this, large rides attract twice as many guests as they would with this setting disabled. For instance, a [[Wooden Roller Coaster]] normally attracts 105 guests to the park, but if one is built in a scenario with this setting enabled and has more than 6 excitement and a 600 m (1,968 ft) length, it will attract 210 guests to the park once the soft guest cap is 1,000 or higher. Note that rides must be able to use the Graph function in the ride window to be eligible for satisfying harder guest generation requirements. Additionally, if a ride has multiple stations, every section must be more than 600 m (1,968 ft) long.
It's hard to judge what this handycap does in detail. It seems that the guest limit is lower and enforced harder. The guest limit is an artifical number and determines by the amount of rides you have. Usually, you can attract about 50 guests with a flat ride and about 75 guests with a roller coaster, but this also depends on your park rating.

This setting can cause a park to stall for no obvious reason, this happens usually when the first batch of guests are broke and can't afford your rides and shops anymore. Not even a completely free park can keep broke guests happy and inside your park. This calls for a radical measure: close your rides and the park gates and wait until most of your guests are gone. This reset will attract new guests with full purses, who can enjoy your rides.{{Template:Confirm}}
Harder guest generation can cause a park to stall for no obvious reason, which usually happens at around 1000 or 1300 guests in your park. If you are playing a scenario with this setting enabled, you may need to sell smaller rides and use the money to build a large coaster to attract guests. Alternatively, since [[advertising]] ignores this 1000 guest limit, you can advertise to bring in fresh guests with more money to spend. Once you have hit the 1,000 guest cap, there is little reason to build gentle or thrill rides and smaller coasters or water rides other than to reduce overcrowding.

In all three RollerCoaster Tycoon games, there are behind-the-scenes setting (handicaps) that are enabled on scenarios, making it harder for the player to complete the goal.

RollerCoaster Tycoon

There are several special settings for scenarios and while some of them are given in the description or obvious, others are hidden. There are two settings for increased difficulty, which you can find out by opening a saved game of the according park with the scenario editor of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2.

Park rating higher difficulty level

This handicap, also known as Park rating is harder to increase and maintain in Scenario Options, makes it harder to please your guests by reducing the final park rating by 100. You can counter it by making your park even better, so watch your guests' moods and their according thoughts. That means more shops and stalls, more bathrooms, clean paths, better and cheaper rides, ... Eventually your park will also reach a rating of 999.

Guest Generation higher difficulty level

This setting, also known as Guests are more difficult to attract in Scenario Options and harder guest generation, will prevent you from attracting significantly more than 1,000 guests without building large coasters. In order to attract more than 1,000 guests with this setting enabled, you must build rides with an excitement rating of at least 6 and a length of at least 600 meters (1,968 feet). In exchange for this, large rides attract twice as many guests as they would with this setting disabled. For instance, a Wooden Roller Coaster normally attracts 105 guests to the park, but if one is built in a scenario with this setting enabled and has more than 6 excitement and a 600 m (1,968 ft) length, it will attract 210 guests to the park once the soft guest cap is 1,000 or higher. Note that rides must be able to use the Graph function in the ride window to be eligible for satisfying harder guest generation requirements. Additionally, if a ride has multiple stations, every section must be more than 600 m (1,968 ft) long.

Harder guest generation can cause a park to stall for no obvious reason, which usually happens at around 1000 or 1300 guests in your park. If you are playing a scenario with this setting enabled, you may need to sell smaller rides and use the money to build a large coaster to attract guests. Alternatively, since advertising ignores this 1000 guest limit, you can advertise to bring in fresh guests with more money to spend. Once you have hit the 1,000 guest cap, there is little reason to build gentle or thrill rides and smaller coasters or water rides other than to reduce overcrowding.
