Construction
Track is laminated wood, topped with a flat steel running rail, constructed on a wooden support structure. Trains are held on the track by up-stop wheels, which run under the inside edge of the rails.

Trains are articulated and have flanged running wheels to allow for a smoother ride on twisted track.
In RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, the Wooden Twister Roller Coaster was combined with the traditional Wooden Roller Coaster, with the additions of vertical loops.
In Real Life
- Although the vertical loop is often in the RollerCoaster Tycoon games, only one wooden coaster has had a legitimate loop. The ride was Son of Beast in Kings Island. Son Of Beast had its loop removed in the winter of 2006/2007 becuase of a maintenance costs. the ride is currently Standing But Not Operating (SBNO).
Dream Woodie Coaster
Dan Wolfe/The Amazing Earl created a downloadable Wooden Roller Coaster train called the Dream Woodie Coaster Trains. The cars were rendered to portray riders raising their arms over their heads on hills and leaning side-to-side on banked turns.
