RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition is a compilation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and its expansion packs, Soaked! and Wild!, just like RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum! It was announced for Nintendo Switch, Steam, and the Epic Game Store on September 8, 2020 and was released by Frontier Developments under the Frontier Foundry brand on September 24, 2020. From the release date until October 1, 2020, the game was free-to-own on the Epic Game Store,[2] otherwise, its original price is $19.99 on the Epic Game Store and Steam and $29.99 on the Nintendo eShop.
Changes and improvements
While RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition is a re-release of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum! under a different name, some minor changes were made such as:
- Change: Splash screens after launching the game include a new copyright splash screen,[1] the new Frontier Foundry logo splash screen (no roller coaster animation), and a QLOC splash screen (on the Nintendo Switch), but excludes the Atari and ATI splash screens.
- Change: The cross on the First Aid and on the Miscellaneous Buildings tab was recolored from red to green to comply with rules of the usage of the Red Cross outside of official purposes.[3]
- Change: User data location that included MusicGenre.txt and Options.txt changed from:
- Microsoft Windows:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Atari\RCT3
toC:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Frontier\RCT3
- macOS: To be added...
- Microsoft Windows:
- Improvement: Native widescreen support in high definition.
- Microsoft Windows and macOS: In addition to old screen resolutions, new screen resolutions natively added in the game (without having to edit the Resolution values in Options.txt) are 1280 x 720 (16:9), 1366 x 768 (16:9), 1600 x 900 (16:9), 1600 x 1024 (16:10), 1680 x 1050 (16:10), 1768 x 992 (~16:9, 221:124), 1920 x 1080 (16:9). 16-bit and 32-bit color options of each screen resolution that were in Platinum! have been removed.
- Improvement: Faster load times.
- Nintendo Switch: Controller support. Does not support touchscreen controls.
- Nintendo Switch: New user interfaces that can be interacted with gaming controllers.
- Nintendo Switch: New in-game tutorial for game controls.
- Removed: References to the publishing company Atari have been removed. This was due to a legal dispute Frontier and Atari had over the ownership of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 after Frontier was not receiving royalties in full for the success of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 they developed.[4]
- Removed: The character-naming cheat code "Atari" that made peeps applaud was removed.
- Changed: On the title screen, there was a child wearing an Atari shirt which was changed to have a shirt with 3 vertical stripes instead.
- Changed: The red Atari shirt on the Novelty T-shirts stall was changed to a plain red shirt.
